Doing up our kitchen part 1 – DIY

So, stupidly I thought it would be a brilliant idea to do up our boring council kitchen cupboard, I am a member of a DIY Facebook group and .. well I’m addicted..

I love doing bits and pieces around the house, but I didn’t know where or how to get some of the things cheaply because obviously I am on a tight budget! I think the paint was the most expensive thing I have brought for the kitchen, but I will leave all links to what we’ve used at the end of the post :).

But needs must, and thanks to my good friend eBay and amazon I have sourced the items that I need to change this god horrid white unit.. into something more magical!

This is the before, as you can see it’s white and frankly disgusting! We’ve been living in this flat since the end of 2010 and sort of just moved in and didn’t really do much to it (please ignore the rubbish at the top of the cupboards, being a flat we don’t have very much space for things)

Here you can see my wonderful, supportive husband putting the red sticky back plastic known as ‘fabaloon’ onto the cupboards, I had seen in the Facebook page that it can be a tough cookie to handle but thanks to Mr S he got it up without much issue, only major flaw is the fact that you have to measure a few inches over with the plastic so you have enough to fold over the top and onto the other side of the doors.. we did not.. (well I didn’t.. whoops)

And here we have the final product, they honestly look so much better than the old white yuckiness that was there before!

The knobs I got from amazon, I wanted a funky and different style with the handles of the doors, they came with an assortment of spots and stripes in a light grey (to match the walls) and I love how they contrast with the red!

It’s still a work in progress of course, it’s been to hot to do anything of late so we are waiting for then the weather is cooler to finish it off and of course I’ll be updating you all on that fun process too… arguments and all hah!

But I am just so pleased that we are able to upgrade our kitchen with a fraction of the price, it just shows that you can change anything without breaking the bank!

Until next part ..

I’ve seen a few posts recently where people have used essentially sticky back plastic for DIY. It is so effective at giving furniture a facelift. I’m busily looking around my house for where I could use some.

And it’s pretty easy to remove too for when we move out, we aren’t aloud to add or remove things annoyingly so making do with what we got. πŸ™‚ plus now we’ve done it the once we know it’s not to hard to do it again x

I recommend joining DIY groups on Facebook, it makes you realize it isn’t as hard as you think it will be and there are plenty of cheat ways of changing up a room πŸ™‚ x
