One of my goals for this year was to cut out the amount of meat that I eat, I remember making this little goal and thinking that I could never do it, I couldn’t cut out meat, I love lamb stew but the more I thought about it the more it started making some sort of sense..
I have always had a issue with meat, when I worked at sainsburys behind a hot food counter which specialized in cooking up chickens and other meat products, I prepped some BBQ ribs that needed to go into the oven next and it hit me, these belonged to an animal, I have ribs very similar to this, I put the ribs down and went to throw up.. and from that point in 2008 I really didn’t like the idea of meat or things that still look like the animal.
It was only because I got pregnant with Kai that I decided to switch back to eating meat, the only piece of meat that I refused to touch was beef but that was purely because the smell made me feel sick to my stomach.. but after I had Kai, I wanted to return to eating vegetarian again but I couldn’t, not because I have zero self control but my iron levels got so low that my midwife recommended I didn’t change my diet again.
So I stayed a meat eater, I didn’t like things that still looked like the animal so I reluctantly cook whole chickens and I don’t like prawns or anything that still looks like the fish.. It all sounds utterly complicated and confusing, but once 2018 hit I made the choice in the second week of the year to stop meat all together..
and its been great so far, the choices in ready made meals for vegetarians is so different these days compared to how they where years ago and because of my tastes have changed I am more willing to eat different things, however I am still the fussiest eat in the world.
Mr S is joining me on this adventure, he doesn’t have to, but he decided to support me, which makes no sense because I don’t mind cooking meat and things for him, I wont change the children’s diets because that simply wouldn’t be fair on them.. and they love a good burger, they did however question what I was doing and I am sure even after being told that ‘Mummy is not eating meat anymore’ they didn’t completely understand…
I also promise not to preach it, I wont suggest to anyone that they should do it ‘for the good of the planet’ your diet is up to you and I wont hate anyone for how they eat, But I do look forward to sharing you all the yummy meals I plan on making in the future and share with you my journey into Veggie-hood!
