Trip to Van Hage and two lost teeth.

img_6096-1

This weekend has been a manic busy one, On saturday the 9th the plan was to get my hair done but because Mr S was busy in London for some website related business I decided to cancel my appointment to save my mum from having to deal with my children for an hour.

Our main plan was to go to a garden center which is called Van Hage, I remember going there as a child with my gran and just being in complete awe of the decorations, the idea was to go there, grab some tacky tinsel and allow the children to buy their own decorations for the tree.. along with some plastic ones so Robin couldn’t break anything and we decided to head back there each year and once we get a bigger place to get a bigger tree and add more hand picked decorations onto it.

Once we found what we was after, it was time to head back home and place everything onto the tree, which I will cover in another post, but when we headed back we sat down and enjoyed some tea while the children ate their candy canes, I told Amelia to go brush her teeth after she finished hers and she came running back into the front room to scream at us that she just lost another tooth, she had lost one on Friday while at school and had complained that the second one was just as wobbly… so the tooth fairy had to hunt around for some money in a hurry, I was amazed that her top tooth fell out first but all her first teeth appeared within the week of each other as a baby and they often fall out around the same time frame after they turn a certain age..

I don’t need anymore falling out anytime soon!

Such a joker!

We had such a lovely time, I ended my night on some chip shop chips while Mr S was late back and even had a beer, which was gross but I still had some because the situation called for something and we didn’t have much else in the house I could stomach.

It is seriously feeling a lot more like christmas now.

Until next time

Parents Evening Win!

On Wednesday 22nd November we had our children’s parents evening, expecting the worst like everyone does Mr S and I was pleasantly surprised to how wonderful K and A are progressing at school, they have friends and are gaining confidence which they didn’t have in the previous years.

A is smart, we always knew she was a clever little girl when she was smaller but the fact that she loves school and loves to learn proves how smart she is, her handwriting is amazing, it’s almost better than mine, and I loved being able to see her progress from the start of year one to now, her confidence has grown so much, she’s even turned into a bit of a cheeky madam by not completely telling the truth about some leaf throwing, I couldn’t help but laugh when her teacher told me that as I could imagine her reaction.

I’m just so proud of her (not the cheeky lying) but just how much she’s coming out of her shell and being a completely different child.

K, I was a bit more worried about, thanks to a funny year 1 he was a little behind in a lot of his goals but had managed to catch up with some of it in year two and entering into year three, I was concerned that his new teacher wasn’t going to be as good as the year two teacher, but I was surprised at how much he’s improved and enjoying school, they’ve been doing about Greek mythology and has learnt so much about them, he’s been telling us about the Minotaur and other little bit bits of information, he’s almost got his ‘pen license’ which means he can write without mistakes with a pen rather than a pencil and he read to my mum the other day saying words I didn’t even know he could read.

He’s excited to learn and I couldn’t be more prouder of him and seems to be really enjoying school, putting his hand up in class and being a lot more confident with his work.

I’m just so proud of them both, I know I’ve said that many times over this post but I can’t help it, I’m so glad they both love school so much, A came home from school on the Friday with another ‘super star’ certificate and K’s class got 100% attendance which means he gets extra play and an award, they get so excited when they get these little awards and stickers and I’m so happy for them.

Here’s to the follow up parents evening in the summer

Until next time

Christmas shop, Starbucks and a day off.

On Friday 17th November Mr S and I went shopping, such great exciting news I know, we do this once a year for the ‘big Christmas shop’ and we get to spend some time together with one of the children.

First stop was of course Starbucks, the intention was to sit down and brainstorm ideas on what we had planned to get K and A, but Mr S was complaining about being tired and hungry..

He didn’t want any of my cinnamon swirl and to be honest it wasn’t that great, it had raisins inside the cinnamony bit and the fussy eater that I am only nibbled on it, even the icing wasn’t good.

R had a babychino, which is basically frothy milk and some shortbreads and loved every second of it!

Wilkinson’s was our first stop, and after having a browse around we came to the conclusion that there wasn’t much there for stocking fillers, our plan was to get smaller items such as books and toys while up town and do the bigger items online using Amazon.

Mr S left to find himself some hot food in the form of a hotdog from one of the stands in the main center.

I however managed to grab myself some sparkly goodies for some future flat lay projects I’ve got cooking up! Who can resist cheap and pretty deco!

After Wilkinson’s our next port of call was the many pound land style shops in our town, last year we found so much great things to keep them entertained in the morning of Christmas Day, this year however, not much, and it was a actually a little disheartening but we did find a few bits.

Next stop was Asda, Asda never fails with good seasonal bits, we found some books and also grabbed the children some pjs for Christmas Eve, I will need to buy R’s from Next as I couldn’t find anything in store for her.

Our final stop was Witherspoon’s for some lunch, at this point Mr S said he started to feel really rubbish and blamed it on the chicken but I’m convinced it was just the hotdog he got earlier, we both had chicken burgers (mine was fried in buttermilk) and R had macaroni cheese full of veggies, she only ate the peas haha!

She also loved this smoothy that she got with her meal, she actually figured out straws too which surprised me, I remember K and A having a bit of trouble with straws, but this went down well.

After that we went to go get a taxi back home and prepare for the school run, Mr S went to bed for a bit so me and R played a little before heading out to collect K and A from school.

Despite the lack of small stocking fillers it wasn’t a bad day, it was nice to get out with Mr S and spend time together as he’s often working hard either at work or on his website.

Once he children got home we sat down to watch Monsters University and ended the day with pizza.

Now it’s time to do the big toys!! How is it almost December already?

Until next time

My Morning Routine #blogtober!

After reading the wonderful Becca from My Girls and Me do a morning routine, I couldn’t resist doing one myself.. so here is my morning routine..

Any time between 3am and 6am R wakes up, I either get really lucky and she just wants her dummy, or I get unlucky and she requires the full haul of the milk/nappy change fun, She either goes back to sleep or doesn’t.. it truly is a luck of the draw!

6:30am… my alarm goes off, depending on how the hours before alarm o’clock, i either get up and feel awesome…or I am a utter zombie, I can usually here K and A playing or arguing around this time, but they often play well together so.. as I said, depending on how things went, I either get up and get ready, or snuggle back into bed.. if I do that then..

7:12am.. Mr S’s alarm goes off.. time to get up!

img_5137
7:20/30am.. breakfast time for all, just before breakfast K and A get themselves ready for school, I will leave their clothes out when they go to bed so its easier for them to get dressed and they are often ready before breakfast, R is always still in her sleep suit during breakfast as it limits how much washing that needs doing later!
8:15.. Mr S takes the children to Breakfast club, yes two breakfasts!, well its more of a before school club really, I wish I knew of this when I had R as it would’ve made mornings a lot easier

8:30/40am .. I give R a bottle of milk and let her sit in her bed while I go have a nice bath, I have been obsessed with Imperial Leather ‘Cherry Bakewell’ bubble bath, it smells exactly like Cherry Bakewells! you can almost taste the pastry! go buy it!

8:50/9:00am .. GET DRESSED and get myself a cuppa tea! I pop some Cbeebies on for R and I set up my laptop and start doing my makeup.. I love being ready, even if I have no plans to leave the house, I am ready before half 9, getting my makeup and doing my hair makes me feel a little more human sometimes.. more so after an early start..

img_5138
Roughly around 10:00am.. R goes for her morning nap and I crack on with writing and housework until she wakes up which is usually just before lunch time!

and that’s my morning routine, pretty boring and basic but I love how chill it can be, the morning of the first day back at school was crazy, we go up late and we rushed about like headless chickens!!

Sometimes R doesn’t nap during the mornings but usually she does, its nice when she does as I can be busy without Tornado R destroying things!

Until next time.

Dentists Ugh. #blogtober

I have to go to the dentist today, I am not best pleased about it, its pretty normal, not like this place, the smell and the fact that someone is looking directly into your mouth and judging you from the state of your teeth..

I have always had this dislike, almost distrust of the dentists, apparently it all started when my wonderful childhood dentist pulled out a wobbly tooth without telling me and it gave me the shock of my life…

So imagine my horror when I find out that I needed to have one removed, I had a tooth that broke, I didn’t think anything of it at the time because it didn’t hurt and didn’t bother me, but one day, it got infected and I was in total agony.. give me birth over tooth ache, I was on so many pain killers and none of them worked… I even remember taking a spoonful of the children’s calpol just to take the pain away (it didn’t really help of course)

But the day came, it was time to get that tooth out, and my goodness the panic I felt, thankfully my dentist at the time was so calming and reassuring that my worries sort of faded away, it came out in one and naturally I asked to look at it, its always odd to see your teeth when they are out of your mouth, they seem so small..

and of course, it happened again, I had another chip, pregnancy does some wonderful things to your teeth and gums, and this time, while I was still worried.. I wasn’t worried so much..

I still don’t really like the dentists, now that i’m 31, stickers are few and far between when I do something brave..

Today is just a basic check up, all is well in my teethy kingdom!

Until next time

Amelia’s New Ears..

For a while now there has been a big debate in the world of parenting, when is the best time to get a child’s ears pierced.

and honestly, when they ask..

Since A turned four she would go on and on about getting her ears pierced like mummy, I didn’t mind when she had it done as long as she decides and she chooses, I wasn’t going to push her into doing it because that wouldn’t be fair on her.

So on a bright and sunny Tuesday morning we headed into town with a mission to get A’s ears pierced.. a case of if we don’t do it now it will never get done, we once again headed to Custom Ink, the place where I got my daith piercing done 6 weeks before, you can read about that here We had thought about going to Claire’s but they unfortunately had been booked up until the following day and we both just wanted to get it over and done with, so Custom Ink was the next best thing and they opened up at 10.

We had a little charity shop hunt before had for some books, because who doesn’t like both charity shops and reading? and once 10am rolled around we walked over to the piercing studio and was the first in line to get it done.

img_3588

I am super proud of A, I had told her that it might hurt, I pinched her ears so she could experience what it may feel like, I didn’t want to lie to her and tell her it was going to be painless because everyone experiences pain completely differently, I asked her over and over again if she was sure and Sue the lady who did the piercing also asked the same, she was sure, and so… click click, it was done.

img_3652

Not a single scream, tear… or anything really, she said ouch for the second one but from experience the second piercing always hurt more than the first, probably down to the fact that you know what it feels like and so your brain just says ‘yup that hurt’ but I am so proud of her, she got a back of sweets for her and her brother and danced around the town before heading home for some ice cream..

A had a huge smile on her face for the rest of the day, I showed her how to clean them properly and how to twiddle them around.. she is really happy with them and I am glad she likes them too, I also explained to her that if she wants to she can take them out and let them heal over, its completely down to her..

I keep catching her looking at herself in the mirror haha!

Going back to the debate of piercing ears of children, wait until they ask, tell them exactly what to expect and don’t lie to them that its not going to hurt.. and just make sure that they are 100% sure that they want it done.

What was your experiences with piercings? are you like me and have about 9 holes in your ears and want many more.. or are you more normal and want just a single or none..

Would you let your children get their ears done if they start asking?

Until next time

Back to School – Summer Term.

YAY!

Call me heartless all you like but I know my children very much enjoy school and I know that I like to have time away from them and enjoy some play time with the youngest (and actually not hear arguments for a change) so when the half term ends, and when the summer holidays end, I make myself a cup of tea and manage to drink it warm for a change!

I do enjoy having my eldest two home with me, but my goodness its a blessing when they finally return to school and their friends from 9 – 3, some relish in having the children off for a few weeks, not having to do the school run daily and be able to just lazy about and do nothing like sit down and ignore the housework because it will end up messy again straight away.. but for me, my favorite time is the school run, I love chatting to the children about what they hope to do at school for that week and they in turn tell me that they are excited for school dinners.. It’s never about what they might learn that’s for sure haha!

I enjoy kissing them goodbye at their classroom doors and walking away knowing they are in safe hands and they are having a blast seeing their friends again and doing things school children do, I get to go home, or head into town with my youngest and have some much-needed quality time with just me and my baby.

I am extremely blessed that my children enjoy school and are extremely proud of their high attendance record, K has worked so hard this year and has done about 16 months of improvement in the space of 6 months while A is completely coming out of her shell and is so bright, she has a drawing pad that she will write down everything she sees which is a big difference from how she was at the start of the year just scribbling down lines and ticks..

School is more than just learning and testing, some of my fondest memories are from the friends and adventures we got up to in school, all those teachers passing on their knowledge of subjects they so fondly take pride in telling, While I have learnt a lot more in subjects i find truly interesting outside of school but that’s purely expanding what I learnt.

This term is all about the final part of the year, full of fun like the sports day and the key stage 1 trip to the beach at the end of the month, it’s about waving goodbye to year 2 and Reception and excitement about meeting new teachers and learning new things along the way.

I’ll admit I didn’t enjoy school as much as my children do, I couldn’t wait to get away from the place, the people I liked but school in general.. I think that’s why I want my children to enjoy it.

img_2388
and I think they enjoyed it today what with the puddles and rain!
