Days out as a family for us is a rare thing, Mr S works all week and then often works all weekend and evenings on his website either travelling to different events or simply just being swamped with work but when we got invited to go along to Dinosaurs in the Wild which is located in the Greenwich Peninsular in London, right next to the O2 I made sure that he kept that day completely clear so we could enjoy time as a family.

Dinosaurs in the Wild is an tour back in time, many millions of years to the Cretaceous period which is home to many glorious and stunning dinosaurs, It only takes a few seconds but we are whisked away to TimeBase67 that is home to scientists who are studying and learning more and more about these creatures in the flesh.

We was given these special glasses which we had to put on when the tour guide told us and during our trip to Timebase67 we got our first look at the dinosaurs which jumped around, blocked our path and made both Kai and Amelia gasp in delight, Robin was that keen on it but the experience is designed for ages 5 and up but she soon relaxed and had fun seeing the dinosaurs. Once we had reached TimeBase67, which one of our tour guide explained is very much like the modern Pentagon in which it is a multi leveled laboratory in each has different areas to explore and learn about the Dinosaurs we was told more about the history of Chronotex and shown around the base, we even got to see an autopsy which was pretty interesting and gross, which lead us into another area where they had all these eggs in various stages of hatching, the technician that explained to us about the eggs pulled out one which he walked off with only to return with a brand new baby which was adorable and also got the chance to feel what a Dinosaur poo felt like.

I think one of my favorite parts of it was when our tour guide pointed over into the corner of the room and with little interest mentioned that the weird mammal in the jar was a ancestor of the human race.

We ended our journey in the observation area and I don’t want to spoil too much but it was actually really amazing, this is the only part that young children might find scary and if I am honest I got a little scared too.

Now onto the important bits, The children absolutely loved every second of it, even Robin who is younger but such an adventurous little girl, Kai was so excited about seeing the T-Rex and Amelia loved seeing the Triceratops and I think the part that was the best was just the science was correct with the dinosaurs themselves as obviously in recent years its shown that they aren’t the brown/grey mess that we previously thought but colorful and even furry or with feathers which pleased my little science brain.

When I first read up of Dinosaurs in the Wild I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, previous experiences with Dinosaur related attractions have all been models that move and there was some of that but a lot of the scenes outside the windows are of course graphics enhanced with the special glasses which are similar to the 3D glasses we get from 3D movies in the cinema and I feel like that made things even better, looking out of the windows in the observation deck was incredible and the drive down to TimeBase67 felt like we was on an actual trip with the movements and sounds.

The actors that showed you around the area as your guides were perfect and funny, interacted with the children perfectly and always asked them questions with sharing knowledge of the dinosaurs that they had on show at the various locations of the base.

It really was such an enjoyable day in which all my children had a good time, including us big kids who just love dinosaurs and the history of our planet, Dinosaurs in the wild will be running in London until the 2nd September so make sure that if you are up for a heart pumping adventure go grab some tickets and have fun exploring 67 Million years into the past.

Until next time

Jewellery has been my passion since I discovered it when I was a little girl, I have a memory of me going through my nan’s jewellery box and trying on her bracelets and rings and as I grew older I developed a little style that I like, which has been gemstones and silver, so when I discovered this amazing little indie brand called Roses and Whiskey that does a mix of the two, how could I not resist?

They only have a small range on their website to choose from but I feel like that’s the magic of it all that there isn’t much of a choice so you don’t end up buying out the whole shop in one go! their gemstone necklaces caught my eye straight away and I decided on the beautiful amethyst (which is good for the mind) and the clear and beautiful quartz point, there is a choice of smooth or natural cut and of course the type of chain you wish to go, Silver, Gold or a black cord. You can choose the length of the chain/cord which is fantastic, I have a wide neck so I love things that have a long chain so I can wear them a bit longer than usual without cutting off any important circulation and they are a good length too.

One of my favorite things about them has to be that they are clearly handmade, I used to make my own jewellery and I love how unique handmade pieces can be, not everything is the same so it really is a one of a kind piece and we all know how important it is to support handmade and indie brands more than shop bought, even more so with jewellery as the designers are always such wonderful and friendly people..

I next had a look at the earrings, now with earrings I am super picky, I find that I cannot wear gold but I found these delightful hoop earrings with moon and stars, which completely reminded me of my ‘hippy’ stage as a child when everything had to be moon and stars! I was worried that the hoop itself would’ve been to big but when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised and they are beautiful, dainty and while I do not want to say the C word yet, perfect for Christmas.

One thing I will say is that they did take a little while to turn up, but because it is handmade there is of course a little time frame between your order going in and it being made and sent out, which I completely understand having made jewellery myself in the past, its not like how it is on amazon where you order by 5 on a Thursday and its there next day, I guess because I was so used to the almost instant dispatch times of amazon that I got a little impatient waiting but once they turned up I was delighted.

Roses and Whiskey are on twitter which is where I found them, so don’t forget to give them a little follow if you like what they do and they are also on instagram as well,  I am for sure going to get more in future, the price is of course kind to your pockets and the jewellery that turns up at your door is beautiful!

Until next time

Cake Cake Cake, who doesn’t like a little bit of cake for a special occasion? Normally cake is saved for birthdays but who’s to say you cannot have some fun on other days too and with Bakerdays you get that right through your letterbox.

Bakerdays themselves is a British based company just on the edge of the fantastic Sherwood Forrest that have over the course of years supplied personalized cakes and biscuits for all sorts of things including companies, so if you ever need to get yourself some cookies with your name on it, these are the places to go, but I am here to talk about the wonder that is a cake through your letterbox, perfectly sized for two people, however we have managed to share it out with everyone in the family.

There is a little selection of styles of the cake sponge itself that you can choose, I picked the basic one and completely forgot my husbands love for lemon cake so when he bit into it he was slightly disappointed at the lack of flavor but that was purely my fault when selecting, plus I don’t think his taste buds are working as when I tried it I could taste the vanilla in the sponge. What is also great is that they have a diary free and a gluten free option when ordering but unfortunately not a vegan friendly no matter how much of the site I searched for it, so perhaps in the future they will include a vegan sponge option.

Bakerdays have such a wide collection of different designs including adding your own images, this one is for fathers day and I went with a drink theme, it looked great on the website but I don’t know because of the process of getting the design onto the cake made it a little distorted or the fact that its been really warm here and it just didn’t sit well in the post, either way the design was bright and colorful and I think that if it was a bit cooler it would’ve been clearer and more obvious as to what it was.

All in all its a cute little novelty idea and the fact that it just fits perfectly through your letter box is a bonus, the cake itself is a lovely moist cake and the icing is perfect and isn’t to thick on top of the cake, it is small but that’s the blessing of it as I cannot imagine fitting a large cake in a letterbox!

if you want to give Bakerdays Letterbox Cakes ago then check out their site here and enjoy the convince of cake through your letterbox and also don’t forget to use FATHER15 at the check out for 15% off your order!

I will just come out and say it, I have caught the homeware bug, I have been seeing beautiful fun prints all over my social medias of late and I couldn’t hold off anymore and started to look into getting some prints for the flat, but I was in luck, a wonderful company called the Old English Company contacted me to see if I was interested in receiving some of their wonderful products in exchange for a little review, it was almost like they read my mind, I of course jumped at the chance and selected the items I wanted to receive.

~

The two prints that I selected is this fun London themed one with all the popular locations that are in the city, written out surrounding a golden Thames, my son is a bit obsessed with London and has sat down to read out all the names asking me about which one has ‘Big Ben’. I love how clean it looks and would look perfect in an office but we have it here in the children’s playroom, along with the other print that I got which says ‘Never Stop Exploring’ which I think its just perfect for a child’s play room or bed room.

~

The three home items that I got are these cute mug with the slogan on, this adorable coaster and of course a wonderful pin to add to my nappy bag, because after all, all mum’s are ‘Mama Bears’ –

The mug is fantastic, I love the modern look of white background and black writing, it feels so clean and fresh and perfect, I love the quotes on all the items, ‘Amazing Things Will Happen’ is just perfect when you are having a bit of a bad day, go make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and remind yourself that things might seem bad now, but always look towards the future, the coasteris adorable with the same sort of font and style like the mug, this reminds me of those cute little ‘joke’ gifts you give your partner at Christmas, and I actually love it, the quality is again fantastic and feels so well made and finally the pink, a beautiful gold and pink enamel pin with a little bear showing off how proud she is at being a ‘Mama Bear’ this is so well made and its just stunning, I have loved all these little products from Old English Company, they are all completely beautiful as I said, made with care.

There is something wonderful about all these products, I know that I am probably going to go back for birthdays for gift ideas for my friends and family, everything is relatively affordable and with how it looks doesn’t seem to be, they’re bright and fun little addition to my cupboard full of mugs and the enamel pin collection they have on the website is something I really want to buy more of and add to my collection of pins, if you love good stylish homeware and beautiful accessories then I highly recommend taking a look at the website, and without sounding too ‘Middle Class’ as my husband says, they make wonderful props for any fancy Instagram post!

I am looking forward to making my future purchases and brightning up my home with wonderful inspirational quotes and more quirky homeware.

Gitte Winter Graugaard’s wonderful book The Children’s Meditation’s In My Heart, which was recently translated from Danish into English is a collection of short meditation’s that help bring more love into a child’s life, to help create an ability to switch off at the end of a busy manic and highly stimulative day and to teach them to take time to love themselves because that is one of the hardest things to do in this world.

The Book itself contains four short stories to share with your child, both Kai and Amelia have really enjoyed the story telling and the almost calm illustrations that open on each story at the end of each story there is two different endings to create one which is for day time, back to play and with hearts full of love and bed time, time for sleep and dream of wonderful things full of love.

It also has little reflections for you to do with your child, much like if its bed time and they’re already fast asleep, spend a little but longer just enjoying the closeness with your child.

Mr S is a little bit of a skeptic with this sort of thing, a little too ‘new age’ for him but I believe that in this day of age that even children need to learn to turn in on themselves and reflect on things and thoughts to create a positive mind and mood.

I have to say my favorite meditation of the book has to be the very last one, With the Universe I Share my Love, it teaches children to look beyond themselves and think of those who might not have the same life they have and teaches them to have empathy for others which is also so important in this world, it creates a little calm and a respect for others that some lack these days.

This is such a beautiful book, in a world full of bad things, finding the time to meditate with your child and help them find love in themselves and for the world is such an important thing to do.
